The setting for this portrait painting was invented as Professor Liu wanted various specific items, such as his grandmother clock and a portrait of the first President of the Brighton and Sussex Medico-Chirurgical Society, to be included. The President's antique chair is actually located in a not very appropriate modern lecture theatre; and the grand mother clock in Professor Liu's house.
